Books

Four years you sat

Alone in that room

Reading books

About a life

You could only dream

Thinking those words

Would open doors

To a new life

Without changing yours

You slowly grew

Not fast enough for you

So your anger brewed

Until you decided

You had something to prove

To yourself

Start making moves

Hoping someday

It would pay

But never knew

You’d live that day

In the mountains

A tent to stay

Underneath October rays

The dark of night

The only sight

The moonlight

And the only sound

The nearby flights

Days passed

I couldn’t write

Some moments too good

That you have to-

Pause

And just enjoy the sight

Sitting with coffee

The sun will rise

Above that mountain

Everything is right

Then we hiked

Back to the Renegade

The bags packed tight

Passed Sedona we drive

Drive

Drive

Drive

And I smile

Because the trees are tall

And the leaves are dying

And a jacket is needed

To go outside

Crunchy pizza

Expensive coffee

A rust orange hat

That day will forever last

The hope you had

That clouds would break

And skies would be blue

And everything would fall

Right into place

It all came true

All I can do

Is thank you

For all the time

You spent alone

Reading books in that room.
