Clocks
One shot
Two shots
Three shots
Of caffeine
Pulsing through my veins
It’s the only thing that seems
To fuel my days
Sometimes dark
Sometimes light
Sometimes drowned in cream
Sometimes over ice
My fingers frantic on the keys
Can’t stop shaking my knees
But I continue to sip
Until the tip of my nose
Is no longer cold
And the taste on my lips
Reminds me of snow
I sit, pages open
On the living room floor
So much out there
So much to explore
Up in the mountains
Where eagles soar
Every single morning
I rewind the tape
But each time I watch it
I can’t help but crack
A smile
Because it’s been a while
Since we reached that peak
And you said you wouldn’t wanna be
Anywhere else, but with me
Each day together
Reading these books
In our own separate nooks
So lost in the clock
The days are all booked
We often forget
To look back and let
The feelings of August
Reemerge in our heads
Because I’m always wired
I’m always thinking, thinking
Thinking ahead
To the next day off
Or the next paycheck
What will I do?
What will I get?
It doesn’t really matter
It doesn't matter at all
If I missed everything important
If I missed everything small
Because I was too focused
On what is distracting us all
Clocks.
