Indecision
“If you can’t decide, the answer is no.”
I have been plagued by indecision.
Every simple move I make is preceded by deep, deep contemplation. Paralysis by analysis causes me to stop in my tracks when faced with a big decision.
But I figured out this one simple piece I was lacking before:
PURPOSE
I lacked purpose. I lacked goals. I lacked direction.
Without these things, uncertainty will prevail.
Decisions were hard to make because I didn’t know where I wanted to end up. When you understand where you want to go, the decision should be easy.
IF YOU CAN’T DECIDE, THE ANSWER IS NO.
Once you have established what you want in life, the decisions should become easy to make.
It either
Helps you achieve your goals
Doesn’t provide any value
Prevents you from achieving your goals
If the outcome is not option A, then the answer is no.
It’s really a simple concept, but it is not simple until you figure out what you want for your life.
On this planet, there are more than 7 billion people. It is IMPOSSIBLE to comprehend every option.
You won’t be able to analyze every potential partner. You won’t be able to contemplate every career path. You won’t be able to live in every single city to exist and then choose.
IF IT HELPS YOU GO WHERE YOU WANT TO GO, DO IT.
You will never be 100% certain, and that’s okay.
But you KNOW when you are not 100% certain.
There is a feeling of uneasiness that enters your subconscious and doesn’t find its way out until you say NO.
I was in a steady relationship for nearly 4 years.
This person seemed to be everything I wanted at first, but as years passed we slowly grew further apart.
I started to feel uneasy about the future of the relationship but continued to tell myself that it would improve.
I continued to say YES even though my conscience was telling me NO.
The uncertainty started to outweigh the certainty.
That’s when I knew it was time.
Sometimes you just tell yourself that you are certain even though you aren’t. It is best to be brutally honest with where you want to go and what you are feeling, even if it is painful.
But if there is anything I have learned:
ADDRESSING PAIN IN THE PRESENT IS BETTER THAN ADDRESSING THAT SAME PAIN IN THE FUTURE ONCE IT HAS COMPOUNDED.
It only gets harder if you choose to prolong taking action.
(I will speak more on this tomorrow.)
Make your decision making process easier by saying no to everything that doesn’t align with your goals.
If it isn’t in your best interest, it’s not for you.
Don’t let indecision keep you from growing.
