Learning to let go
“Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on.”
My tragic flaw is my need to be in control of everything.
I convince myself that if something doesn’t go the way I want it to, there is something that I could’ve done differently.
I believe that you can influence most of what goes on in your life, but I have realized that sometimes letting go and moving on is better.
The worst part about trying to control everything:
THE PRESSURE YOU PUT ON YOURSELF IS OVERWHELMING.
It’s all about balance.
You have to feel pressure and expect things of yourself to get better at anything, but you also have to just let things out of your control pass.
Putting more pressure on yourself than you need to just leads to more issues mentally.
You feel stressed. You feel tired. You feel like you are not doing enough.
I have realized that I am in my most productive state when I am being 100% focused in short sprints rather than being 50% focused for the long run.
I used to always think that if I took any time off, I was going to let myself fall. I was going to let people overtake me. I was going to lose all my progress.
But now, I realize that it is better to just worry about what I can control and let the rest just happen. There is no need to overstress something that is out of my control because it will just make it so my focused time is unfocused.
DON’T LET THE THINGS THAT DON’T MATTER STEAL YOUR VALUABLE ATTENTION.
Your time and your attention are your two biggest assets.
When you worry about the uncontrollables, you are giving them both away.
Let go of what doesn’t matter.
