owl

Lingering leaves lift up

From the trees

Taken by a breeze

Until they crunch

Buried underneath my feet

Pale blue sets into

Glowing hues of pink and orange

Dusk arrives much earlier than it used to

So we huddle under the comfort

Of the street light

Trying to delay the oncoming night

From tree to tree

They fly

Silhouettes of wings

Cross between

The high, spiny trees

Around the fire pit below

A chatter ceases

As those omnipotent eyes

Stare down from the night sky

Let me see one time

What we looked like through those eyes

A different life

In a different time
