Rush

“Time becomes irrelevant when it is only spent waiting for the next thing.”

It’s hard not to rush.

You are taught since day 1 that you have to hustle. You are taught to get to work early, get done with as much as you can as fast as you can, then rest as fast as you can so you can get back to work.

It is extremely hard to reverse these ideas that have been taught to us from a young age.

You begin school on a schedule and that schedule controls your entire day. You have no say in how long you can enjoy each moment. You are told exactly when to learn, when to rest, when to eat, when to see your friends, when to sleep, when to do anything.

Structure is great, but structure is the reason you have a hard time recognizing the beauty of the moment you are in.

Naval says:

“Recover time and happiness by minimizing the use of these 3 smartphone apps: phone, calendar, and alarm clock.”

The saddest part about this statement is that I know it’s true and it’s for the best, but I know right now I would be lost without them.

Your existence calls for you to be tied to a calendar.

Your endless responsibility causes you to become dependent on your phone, calendar and alarm clock.

YOUR LIFE IS FOCUSED ON WHAT’S NEXT.

That is why it is so hard to pay attention to what is going on now.

The goal for my life is to create a life where time doesn’t matter. I want to create a life where I am not counting down the seconds until I have to go back to work, or go to sleep, or wake up.

You rush to wake up so you can work.

You rush through work so you can relax.

You rush through relaxing so you can sleep.

You rush through sleep so you can wake up.

It is an endless cycle.

Unstructured days are my favorite types of days.

They throw me off because I am such a structured person, but they are the best for my health. They make me pay more attention to the good parts about what I am doing, and pay less attention to the next thing I have to do.

THE BEST MEMORIES ARE CREATED WHEN YOU DON’T EXPECT THEM TO BE.

Every time I have expected anything to be a good memory, I am let down.

When I slow down, let life happen, and quit rushing, the best memories just happen.

Don’t rush through your days.

Don’t rush through your nights.

Don’t rush through your life.

What’s next will always come, take a second to recognize what’s now.
