Talking to myself
“Be careful how you talk to yourself because you are always listening.”
Even when I am alone, I still filter the words that come out of my mouth.
I wonder why.
Yesterday I was driving alone and tried just talking to myself out loud. Completely unfiltered and completely real thoughts. Right away, I couldn’t do it. I still found myself looking for the right words to say and I was the only person listening.
Then as I talked more, I started to work things out in my head.
I started to realize I don’t like the sound of my voice.
I don’t like how I talk.
I don’t like how I slur.
I don’t like how I mumble.
I don’t like how I stutter.
I don’t like how my words just start to blend together.
It started to hit me.
I HAVE NEVER APPRECIATED ANYTHING ABOUT MYSELF.
I continued to talk through these thoughts.
I just kept listening and slowly began to appreciate the things about myself that I have never seen as special.
YOU ALWAYS APPRECIATE THE THINGS YOU DON’T HAVE.
It’s harder to appreciate what you do have.
That is why I chase the people who possess attributes that I don’t have and I never will have.
You become accustomed to yourself over time. You start to lose appreciation for the gifts you have as you grow older because you are used to them.
Sometimes it is necessary to remind yourself of what you can do.
I need to talk to myself more. I need to listen to myself more and be happy with who I am and the thoughts that come from my head.
Most self talk is negative. You focus on the bad things about yourself. You focus on what you can’t do rather than what you can do.
I have always felt that being hard on myself will make me better but I am starting to realize all that it has done is make me lose sight of everything good about me.
It is good to aspire to be the best.
But to be the best you have to believe you are the best.
Self-satisfaction comes from believing in yourself. No matter how good you are, if you don’t believe it for yourself, it doesn’t matter, you still won’t be satisfied with who you are.
FULFILLMENT COMES FROM ACCEPTING WHO YOU ARE.
When you talk to yourself, make sure it is the truth.
Be honest with yourself.
Call out the bad, but celebrate the good.
Self-awareness is the only way to fulfillment.
